About the Role:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Studio Manager directly oversees front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) teams, ensuring they are properly equipped to deliver excellence at all times. This role is responsible for guest and member experience both inside and outside the group fitness studios—with the exception of class delivery itself, which falls under the fitness team's responsibility.

The Studio Manager handles hiring, training, and retaining FOH and BOH team members to achieve exemplary levels of guest and team satisfaction.

This position manages team scheduling, studio supplies procurement, retail merchandising, and facilities inventory while reporting on various aspects of the Studio's P&L. Key financial metrics include labor budget, tools and supplies, and office expenses.

Non-financial KPIs include brand net promoter score (NPS), department employee net promoter score, and employee turnover rate.

The Studio Manager plays a key role in facility maintenance by identifying and logging issues, working closely with the Facilities Manager for prompt resolution.

Finally, the Studio Manager collaborates cross-functionally with other departments—including marketing, partnerships, Food & Beverage and events—serving as the operations lead and providing additional team resources when required.

Hours of Operation:

Sweat and Tonic operates 7 days a week, from 5:30AM - 10:30PM. A standard work week runs from Wednesday - Sunday or Tuesday - Saturday but candidates understand that the needs and seasonality of the business dictate that presence and responsibility will be required outside of regular working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible leadership and presence at home location.
  • Hire, train, and retain top talent in the FOH and BOH teams.
  • Draft employment contracts for all employees, forwarding to Director of Operations for final approval.
  • Create and continually manage FOH and BOH schedules aligned with seasonal demands and budgeted labor allocation.
  • Lead onboarding initiatives to ensure each team member's welcome experience sets the standard for professionalism and excellence.
  • Maintain accurate employee records.
  • Procure all facility supplies, including cleaning equipment and guest amenities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and follow a regular ordering schedule.
  • Work with counterparts at other locations to ensure adequate fresh laundry is supplied according to pre-determined schedule and demand levels.
  • Collaborate with counterparts to ensure efficient use of shared inventories for supplies, retail, and Tonic Bar.
  • Meet regularly with counterparts at other locations to ensure brand uniformity in guest experience, systems, and processes.
  • Regularly attend classes at home and partner locations to provide feedback and ensure experience consistency.
  • Identify operational areas for improvement, propose and implement solutions.
  • Report bi-weekly on payroll metrics.
  • Report monthly on labor and operational expense budgets.
  • Report quarterly on employee turnover rates.
  • Identify coaching opportunities within the team and perform progressive corrective action when necessary.
  • Conduct weekly studio maintenance walk-throughs with the Facilities Manager to ensure all action items receive proper attention.
  • Maintain studio and common areas to expected standards of excellence.
  • Make judgment calls on member account administration inquiries.
  • Assist with member and non-member conflict resolution when the team needs support.
  • Identify, monitor, intervene, and report rare instances when member behaviour breaches studio etiquette or Code of Conduct.
  • Work closely with Shift Managers, maintaining clear communication, offering support, guidance, and coaching.
  • Cover Shift Manager responsibilities during vacancies or absences.

About You:

  • You have a highly-accountable mentality
  • You have 3+ years of professional experience in sales, business, or related field
  • You have a genuine interest in fitness, health, and wellness
  • You have a college or university degree in business or related field preferred
  • You have hospitality experience as an asset
  • You have exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • You have an analytical approach with ability to use quantitative data in decision-making
  • You are guest service oriented—passionate about problem-solving
  • You have excellent organizational and time management skills
  • You are able to manage time and be available for team outside regular working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
  • You have an intuitive understanding of when in-person presence is required beyond scheduled hours

Compensation & benefits:

  • $65,000 - $85,000 base salary dependent on experience
